A chance to stand out from the crowd!

Food buffets?  Usually, I say ‘no, thanks’.

I don’t think of myself as a food snob, however I cannot help but be conscious of mass-produced food that sits for hours under heat lamps.  This goes back to my chicken-on-a-stick in Dublin.  I’m scarred for life, but I’ll spare you the details.

Of course, there’s a flip side to this or I wouldn’t be writing about it.

I’m a Yorkshire man, and the owt fer nowt culture of a Yorkshire man runs deep.  So it is that when I received an email inviting me to the VIP opening – yes, you read that right, I received a VIP invite – for a new Chinese buffet restaurant in my home town of Halifax, I jumped at the chance to attend a buffet of all things.

After all, I’m a VIP and a VIP should not be turning down offers…for food.

Where I wound up is no average location for buffet food.  One million pounds has been spent fitting out The Chinese Buffet Halifax restaurant and let me tell you – it shows.

There is not one plastic café style chair in sight.  I checked.  In fact, tall, creamy leather chairs occupy the stylish restaurant as far as the eye can see.  To be exact, 230 people may dine in regal comfort.

230 happens to be the magic buffet number, or so I am told.

The theory is the more diners in the restaurant, the faster buffet food disappears.  Due to the high consumption rate, a team of skilled chefs are in the kitchen regularly replenishing the buffet with freshly cooked dishes.

Since the food is refreshed so often, my concerns regarding buffets melted away.  Of course, I am not the only diner exercising caution when it comes to the average buffet.

I spoke with The Chinese Buffet’s MD.  He is familiar with frustrations and cautiousness regarding buffet–style eateries.  However, he sees The Chinese Buffet restaurant as a chance to stand out from the crowd.

Aware of the stale and dissatisfying meals offered up at other buffets, the MD assured me that The Chinese Buffet provides fresh fare, which is the very basis of its appeal to refined palates like mine!

IMG_2980The MD prides himself on the freshness of their ingredients, not just the dishes themselves.  Every item on the buffet is cooked fresh on site, and that includes their incredible desserts.

In a previous blog post, I wrote about having a restaurant for every occasion.  The Chinese Buffet Halifax is no doubt a restaurant I will visit again, probably with friends and probably before I check out the latest movie in the cinema, which so happens to sit directly above the restaurant!
