Cosy dining area at My Thai (Old Steps) in Leeds featuring wooden chairs, floral ceiling décor, and a large window with natural light.

Tucked away on York Place, My Thai (Old Steps) might just be Leeds’ best-kept secret. Authentic dishes, warm service, and serious flavour make this hidden gem one to remember.

Vibrant wild garlic soup garnished with a swirl of cream and fresh herbs, served at The Abbey Inn with Cornish Sea Salt branding visible on the table

Cornish Sea Salt isn’t just seasoning, it’s craftsmanship in crystal form. From an exquisite evening at The Abbey Inn to transformative home cooking, here’s how this salt changed the way I cook.

Live pianist performing during evening service at Bettys, enhancing the refined dining atmosphere with soft classical music.

Bettys in the evening is a quietly luxurious affair. Think: live piano, polished silver, and traditional dishes made with care. We dined at their Harrogate location and rediscovered why this beloved Yorkshire institution remains such a draw, for visitors and connoisseurs alike.

Close-up of the Born Slippy burger at Fat Hippo Leeds, featuring double patties, melted American cheese, braised pork rib meat, jalapeños, garlic butter mayo, and a toasted brioche bun, served with a side of seasoned fries in a blue enamel bowl.

After a disappointing first visit, we returned to Fat Hippo Leeds, and it was a total game-changer. From perfectly seasoned fries to one of the best chicken starters we’ve had in ages, this midweek meal proved how powerful it is when a restaurant truly listens, learns, and levels up.

Christopher Blackburn and his wife standing together on the lawn at the Buckingham Palace Garden Party, dressed in formal attire among a crowd of guests. The palace's grand rear facade and a bright blue sky with scattered clouds are visible in the background.

From humble beginnings in Halifax to the grand grounds of Buckingham Palace, a proud and poignant milestone to be honoured for contributions to UK education and social mobility. A once-in-a-lifetime Royal Garden Party and a reflection on the power of purpose, giving back, and the unforgettable afternoon tea served in true royal style.

Fat Hippo Leeds promises bold burgers and indulgent sides, but our family visit was a mixed experience. While the Mars Attack shake was a standout, some dishes fell short, though the brand’s response showed real integrity.

Gourmet beef pie served with layered dauphinoise potato, kale, and rich jus at The Black Bull in Sedbergh, with wine and candlelight in the background.

We visited The Black Bull in Sedbergh for a cosy countryside escape and discovered one of the finest meals we’ve had all year. From a show-stopping venison dish to freestanding baths and Howgill views, this is boutique brilliance at its best.

From Victorian seaside charm to moorland cycles, dog-friendly walks, artisan breakfasts and countryside pubs, discover how North Yorkshire has something for every member of the family—including the dog.

Illuminated Hard Rock Cafe guitar sign against a vibrant, abstract backdrop of colourful neon lights, captured at night in Manchester’s city centre.

Billed as a fresh new dining concept for spring, Hard Rock Cafe’s “Fresh Beats” menu promised bold flavours and vibrant dishes. But when the execution lacks care, even the loudest marketing can’t drown out the disappointment.
