4 Days in Barcelona: Where to Stay, Eat and Explore on a Jet2 City Break

A visitor takes a photo of the iconic Sagrada Família in Barcelona, capturing the intricate gothic and modernist architecture of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpiece, with cranes towering above as construction continues.

A luxury-inspired guide to Barcelona’s finest hotels, unforgettable dining, and must-see experiences

There’s something magical about leaving behind the cool, grey drizzle of the North of England and stepping into the golden warmth of the Mediterranean. The moment I stepped off my Jet2 flight from Manchester, I was reminded why Barcelona is one of Europe’s most captivating city break destinations. The air felt lighter, tinged with the scent of the sea and filled with an energy that promised both adventure and indulgence. With the wide choice of Jet2 Barcelona flights, getting here is quick and easy, making it the perfect escape when you’re craving sun, culture, and excitement.

Barcelona: A Living Masterpiece

Barcelona isn’t just a city; it’s a living masterpiece. Every corner seems designed to delight, from Gaudí’s swirling architecture to the aroma of sizzling garlic escaping from tapas bars and the sounds of Spanish guitar echoing through hidden alleyways. It’s a place that knows how to live beautifully, and a city break here is all about sinking into that rhythm for a few unforgettable days.

Your holiday begins the moment you step onto the plane.

The Perfect Blend of Culture, Food and Lifestyle

There’s a sense of ease that makes the trip feel indulgent before you’ve even landed. Barcelona blends it all: mornings spent exploring centuries-old architecture, afternoons lounging on the beach with a cocktail in hand, and evenings filled with tapas and seafood so fresh it tastes like the ocean. With home just a short flight away, it feels almost unreal that so much colour, flavour, and culture lies only a couple of hours from your doorstep.

Narrow street in Barcelona lined with scooters and motorbikes, surrounded by historic buildings with balconies and plants, and people walking in the distance.

This isn’t just a quick getaway, it’s a chance to taste the best of Spain’s food, art, and lifestyle in a city that never stops surprising. Over the next few days, I immersed myself in Barcelona’s wonders: fine dining, world-famous landmarks, hidden cocktail bars, serene mountain monasteries, and even spa time to unwind. It’s clear why Jet2 has made Barcelona one of their flagship city break destinations, and why it’s a city I’ll always return to.

The Base for the Perfect Trip: H10 Marina Barcelona

The foundation of the perfect trip is the H10 Marina Barcelona, a hotel that balances location, comfort, and understated luxury. Jet2holidays offers a wide range of excellent Barcelona hotels, and the H10 Marina is among the best. Tucked just outside the Gothic Quarter, it feels like a retreat of its own, nestled between the shimmering coastline of the Olympic Village and the elegant grid of Eixample.

Rooms here are compact but cleverly designed, spotless, contemporary, and functional, with everything you need when the city is waiting beyond your door. The real indulgences, though, come in the shared spaces.

On the rooftop, a shimmering pool reflects the Spanish sun. It may not be vast, but slipping into the water with a cocktail in hand as the Mediterranean breeze drifts past feels nothing short of cinematic. From this perch, terracotta rooftops stretch into the distance, framed by palms and the spires of Gaudí’s Sagrada Família.

The Despacio Spa is where H10 Marina truly shines. A bubbling hot tub, thermal circuit, Finnish sauna, and Turkish bath offer deep relaxation, while candlelit treatment rooms provide massages and facials that leave you feeling renewed and ready for late-night tapas. It’s the kind of spa you plan your trip around, not just drop into.

Fitness fans can make use of the small gym, but the real joy comes outside. Step out and you’re moments from the beachfront promenade, ideal for a morning run or cycle. Locals jog past, rollerbladers weave between them, and cafés open their shutters with the scent of fresh pastries drifting out.

The H10 Marina Barcelona is far more than just a bed for the night. It’s the springboard for every adventure, a calm, stylish retreat that connects you seamlessly to the best of the city.

Where to Eat in Barcelona

If there’s one thing that defines Barcelona as much as Gaudí’s architecture or its coastline, it’s food. The city lives and breathes gastronomy, from tucked-away tapas bars to sleek restaurants pushing the boundaries of flavour. Jet2CityBreaks gives you the freedom to eat your way through the city, and I took full advantage.

Elegant seaside restaurant interior with neatly set tables covered in white cloths, wine glasses, and folded napkins, overlooking large windows with a view of the ocean outside.

El Tribut set the tone: a sleek seafront restaurant where the burrata with sweet potato, warm honey, lime zest, almonds, and sea salt was unforgettable. The fresh anchovy brioche with romesco was another highlight, while the Iberian ham croquettes, crisp, golden, and filled with silky richness, might just have been the best I’ve ever eaten.

But Barcelona isn’t only about fine dining. Tapas culture is everywhere, on a tapas trail through the Gothic Quarter, it’s impreative that you stumble upon La Pineda, a deli-style bar stacked with meats and cheeses, authenticity ruled, whilst La Plata stood out, serving sardines so fresh they seemed lifted straight from the sea. Drinking wine from a porró there was messy, fun, and pure Barcelona.

Barcelona doesn’t just feed you, it seduces you, one bite at a time.

Barcelona by Night

As the sun sinks behind Barcelona’s skyline, the city transforms. Streets buzz with chatter, tapas bars overflow, and glasses clink in the Gothic Quarter. After a tapas trail through El Born and beyond, the night continued, because in Barcelona, it always does.

Hand holding a traditional Catalan porró wine pitcher filled with white wine, with blurred background of people socialising outside a rustic bar in Barcelona.

Hidden behind a pastrami shop is Paradiso, one of the world’s best cocktail bars. Inside, mixology becomes theatre. The Enigma cocktail, served in a sculptural glass shaped like a brain, topped with a raspberry and pine semifreddo dome that melts into the drink, was extraordinary. Each sip revealed new layers, a sensory journey and a story I’ll retell many times.

Paradiso isn’t a place to spend the whole night, but one cocktail here is worth every cent. It’s the perfect crescendo to Barcelona’s after-dark magic.

A Day in the Mountains: Montserrat & Oller del Mas Winery

Barcelona isn’t just about the city. An hour away lies the dramatic beauty of Montserrat, with its serrated peaks rising like a stone fortress. The Benedictine monastery, home to the Black Madonna, has drawn pilgrims for centuries. Even if you’re not religious, the atmosphere is moving, and the views stretch endlessly across Catalonia.

Tourists gathered in the ornate courtyard of Montserrat Monastery in Catalonia, Spain, admiring the grand basilica façade with intricate stone carvings and a large circular stained glass window.

Adventurers can ride the funiculars for sweeping vistas, while art lovers are drawn to the Montserrat Museum, home to Picasso, Dalí, and El Greco. I couldn’t fit it in this time, but it’s firmly on my list for a return visit.

The day shifted from spiritual to indulgent at Oller del Mas, a boutique winery set within a 10th-century castle. Here, centuries of tradition meet modern sustainability. Tastings of velvety reds were paired with cheeses, cured meats, and rustic bread, the perfect match for views of Montserrat’s jagged peaks in the distance.

Sipping wine in that setting was unforgettable, the ultimate pairing of nature, culture, and flavour.

A Taste of Modern Barcelona & Iconic Views

The next day, and for lunch, a visit to Madre Taberna Moderna for paella. Perfectly cooked rice, layers of flavour, and fresh ingredients made it exceptional, even if seaside paella still holds the crown.

Later, the Sercotel Rosellón rooftop delivered Barcelona’s most iconic view: the Sagrada Família framed so closely it feels almost within reach. Book well in advance, this is one of the city’s hottest tickets. With a glass of cava in hand, the moment was pure magic.

Close-up of a traditional Spanish seafood paella served in a large pan, topped with mussels, clams, and prawns, on a restaurant table with drinks and people dining in the background.

Stepping inside the basilica itself only deepened the awe. Gaudí’s vision came alive in cascades of stained-glass light. It’s not just a landmark; it’s the heart of any Barcelona trip.

Exploring on Two Wheels & Dining at Fonda Pepa

Barcelona is made for exploring on two wheels. Utalising the vast amount of rental bikes and guided by Apple Maps on my iWatch, I cycled shaded lanes, wide boulevards, and hidden corners, stumbling upon plazas, flower stalls, and neighbourhood chatter. It’s the city at its most authentic.

A gourmet dish served on a white plate, featuring a golden-brown patty topped with microgreens and thinly sliced vegetables, presented in a rich red sauce, with a wine glass and blurred restaurant background.

Dinner at Fonda Pepa was the perfect finale. Traditional Catalan dishes, served with a touch of modern charm, created a warm atmosphere where locals and travellers mingled. Every plate celebrated the city’s culinary DNA.
