Many restaurants are incredibly clever at luring you in with the promise of an exclusive festive deal but often less forthcoming with the relevant deal when you take your seat
With some restaurants reporting that they can generate up to 30% of their annual turnover over the festive period now is the right time to grab yourself a bargain!
The fight for your custom is ruthless and played correctly you can dine at some of the very best restaurants for a fraction of the cost, but you need to know the tricks!
Many restaurants are incredibly clever at luring you in with the promise of an exclusive festive deal but often less forthcoming with the relevant deal when you take your seat at the table, tip: don’t be embarrassed to ask for the right menu.
Wondering where these deals are? Well we grabbed a great deal over the weekend by utilising the Festive Dining deals listed on bookatable.co.uk and stumbling upon a 3 course festive menu at Miller & Carter in Mirfield for just £23.95, which when you consider includes a Lobster Starter and a Steak Main it’s an offer worth taking note of.
Located just off the M62 close to Brighouse Huddersfield & Dewsbury with ample Car Parking for a restaurant of this huge size, Miller & Carter are part of the Mitchells & Butlers family of brands which includes firm favorites Browns and Vintage Inns.
As you would expect from a brand this size the welcome is warming and we’re escorted through the mass of tables to a quite area close to the pass, our host for the evening is Alison who is more than happy to talk us through the festive menu and make one or two recommendations.
For starters I opt for the Spiced Rum Barbecue Glazed Cluck & Duck wings, a mixture of chicken wings and duck wings lovingly marinated and served with a blue cheese dip and whilst I’m more than accustom to the Wing of a Chicken admittedly duck wings is new to me but what a revelation, stunning!!
Across the table Mrs Pudd is tantalised by the Croxton Manor Cheddar Mushrooms served with toasted artisan bread and has similar praise to the quality of the dish as she mops the final bit of the sauce with the remaining chunk of bread.
Whilst an 8oz Rump steak is included in the festive deal we both opt to pay a supplement and take a different cut of meat I opt for the Ribeye and Mrs Pudd goes Fillet, both are served with parsley butter, seasoned fries, the signature crispy onion loaf roasted balsamic tomatoes and a weird wedge of iceberg lettuce drenched in a dressing of your choice.
Both steaks are flame cooked perfectly to our preference of medium rare the accompanying elements are fantastic in flavour and make for a perfectly balanced plate of food although why we need a huge wedge of iceberg lettuce really does confuse me, weird.
Alison is clear in her direction of dessert preferences and I follow her lead, dark chocolate torte with a coconut sorbet and rich Belgian chocolate sauce is indeed a super choice, for Mrs Pudd it’s the vanilla cheesecake that whilst great in flavour is a little over facing in size.
Regular readers of the Yorkshire Pudd blog maybe surprised to hear me praising steak in a chain style establishment given I’ve eaten in some of the best steak houses in the UK, however let me explain, just like the VW group has a car for every buyer from Skoda to Lamborghini I believe that there is a steak for every buyer too and at £23.95 for 3 courses this menu and quality of food at this price point is an absolute bargain.
Special mention once again to Alison at Miller & Carter Mirfield who looked after us so so well, a really great meal following our Sunday family walk.
